NEW DELHI: The case of demolition of the temple of Sant Ravidas in Tughlakabad area of the national capital has reached the Supreme Court. On the lines of Ayodhya, a petition was filed in the apex court on Tuesday seeking worship at the Sant Ravidas temple in Tughlakabad. Haryana Congress President Ashok Tanwar in his petition has said that all the new rules do not apply to the temple as the temple is 600 years old and is associated with the faith of lakhs of people.

In the petition, the petitioner has sought permission from the Supreme Court to construct the temple and worship it. The petition also referred to Article 21A for the right to worship. The petitioner said that the apex court had never ordered the demolition of the temple but sought to transfer it and the manner in which the temple was demolished was part of a larger conspiracy.

The petitioner said that the court should reconsider its decision and issue an order for the construction of the temple. Ashok Tanwar has cited several mythological facts in his petition. In Tughlakabad, there is a lot of resentment among the Dalits over the demolition of the temple of Sant Ravidas and the issue has now intensified.
