Gourav Vallabh, a prominent figure in the Congress party, has decided to step down from his position ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the party's current direction, labeling it as "directionless."

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Vallabh stated, "I am not able to feel comfortable with the directionless way in which the Congress Party is moving forward today. I can neither raise anti-Sanatan slogans nor abuse the wealth creators of the country in the morning and evening. That is why I am resigning from all posts and primary membership of Congress Party."

Vallabh's decision comes after his unsuccessful bid in the Rajasthan assembly election from Udaipur constituency in 2023, where he faced defeat against the BJP candidate by a significant margin of over 32,000 votes. His political journey began in 2019 when he contested from Jharkhand's Jamshedpur East, securing the third position behind the then-sitting chief minister Raghubar Das and Saryu Roy.

Highlighting his grievances, Vallabh criticized the Congress party's stance on various issues, particularly its approach towards religion and economics. He accused the party of moving away from its fundamental principles, citing discrepancies between its rhetoric and actions.

"The party is moving in the wrong direction. On one hand, we talk about the caste-based census and on the other hand, the party seems to oppose the entire Hindu society. This style of working gives a misleading message to the public that the party is a supporter of a particular religion only. This is against the basic principles of Congress," Vallabh remarked.

Moreover, he condemned the party's treatment of economic matters, alleging a tendency to demean and criticize wealth creators. "Today we have turned against those economic liberalization, privatization, and globalization (LPG) policies for which the world has given us full credit for implementing in the country. Is it wrong to earn money by doing business in our country?" he questioned.

Expressing his disappointment with the party's failure to prioritize economic policy-making in the national interest, Vallabh lamented the lack of effort in this regard. "When I joined the party, my only aim was to use my ability and capability in economic matters in the interest of the country. But, this effort was not made at the party level, which is no less than suffocation for a person knowledgeable about economic matters like me," he added.

Vallabh's resignation underscores the internal challenges faced by the Congress party and raises questions about its future direction as India approaches crucial electoral milestones.
