New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi is likely to make major changes in the party just two weeks before the Monsoon session. It is being speculated that someone else may be given the post of party leader in the Lok Sabha by removing Congress stalwart Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary. This is seen as strengthening efforts to form an alliance with the Trinamool Congress.
In West Bengal, the Congress and the LEFT Front contested the assembly elections together, but one seat was vacant as the Bharatiya Secular Morcha Party led by its ally Abbas Siddiqui had won only one seat from the Sanyukta Morcha. However, the Congress did not attack TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee in the entire election phase.
Therefore, the Congress' decision to convert Chaudhary as the party's leader in the Lok Sabha is seen as an attempt by the party to take an important step to build a closeness with Banerjee. However, Chaudhary, who has been an MP from Barhampur for a long time, has been in critical condition in West Bengal. In place of Chaudhary, the Congress is reportedly hoping to build better relations with Banerjee and the TMC to the grass root level. According to sources, the TMC is likely to write to the President from the Congress and other opposition parties seeking the recall of the Governor.
