New Delhi: The election for the post of national president in the Congress is proposed next month, but in the meantime, the party's MPs are questioning its process. Five Congress MPs have expressed concern over transparency and fairness in the election for the speaker's post. Those who expressed concern include Manish Tewari, Shashi Tharoor, Karti Chidambaram, Pradyut Bordoloi, and Abdul Khaliq. These MPs have also written a letter to Madhusudan Mistry, chairman of the party's Central Election Authority. Shashi Tharoor has written such a letter to Madhusudan Mistry in the past.

It is worth mentioning that Manish Tewari had also raised questions on the fairness of the Congress organization elections. He had said that without the voter list, how will there be fair elections for the post of Congress President? He demanded that the name and address of the voter of the party should be printed for fair elections. According to media reports, five Congress MPs have now written in the letter that in the election for the post of President, voters, candidates, all 28 Congress State President (PCC), 9 Union Territories have to go to the Electoral Roll (meaning who will vote) to verify. It is further written that such a list should be made available to the voter and the candidate, containing the names of the delegates and electoral collages (list of people who cast their votes) of the PCC. It has been said in the letter that this will not lead to undue arbitrariness.

In a joint letter to Mistry on September 6, Congress Lok Sabha MPs Shashi Tharoor, Karti Chidambaram, Pradyut Bordoloi and Abdul Khaleque have said that it is unfortunate that their demand for the release of the voter list is being misrepresented. The MPs wrote in their letter that, 'We are not suggesting that any internal document of the party should be released in such a way as to give an opportunity to those who want to misuse this information.'

Congress MPs' letter to Mistry said, "We are of the firm view that before the start of the nomination process, the Central Electoral Authority (CEA) of the party should provide a list of representatives of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) who will be elected by the electorate." The MPs said this list should be made available so that it can be verified who is entitled to nominate candidates and who is entitled to vote. He said ''If the CEA has any problem with the release of the voter list publicly, it should put in place a mechanism to securely share this information with all voters and potential candidates.''
