The Congress National Alliance Committee has commenced discussions on the party's claim for seats in Uttar Pradesh as part of the upcoming Lok Sabha election in India.

The committee, chaired by Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Baghel, and Salman Khurshid, has convened to strategize and negotiate Congress's share of seats in the Uttar Pradesh alliance. Avinash Pandey, the Uttar Pradesh Congress in-charge, and Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Mishra were among the attendees, while Congress UP President Ajay Rai participated virtually.

In a parallel context, Akhilesh Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party, has been vocal about the potential defeat of the BJP-led NDA in the forthcoming general elections. Yadav emphasized the significance of the "PDA" (Pichde Dalit Alpasankhyak) alliance in challenging the NDA, aiming to oust the BJP from Uttar Pradesh and thereby impacting national politics.

Following significant organizational adjustments within the Congress, the National Alliance Committee has initiated talks with leaders of various parties within the INDIA bloc to explore possibilities of seat-sharing. Bhupesh Baghel highlighted that discussions with other leaders will precede negotiations with alliance partners.

The Committee, comprising prominent leaders such as Wasnik, Gehlot, Baghel, Khurshid, and Mohan Prakash, was formed recently to navigate state-based alliances and secure seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

As the fourth meeting of the INDIA partners in Delhi earlier this week left the sensitive issue of seat-sharing unresolved, consensus among the coalition partners has become increasingly crucial, especially after the recent electoral setbacks in key states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan.

During the recent meeting, the INDIA Bloc passed resolutions condemning the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the upcoming polls and criticized the mass suspension of Opposition MPs during the Winter Session of Parliament.

Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress national president, highlighted the undemocratic nature of the MPs' suspension, reflecting a unified stance among the alliance partners.

The meeting occurred amidst escalating tensions between the Centre and the Opposition over the suspension of MPs and disruptions in Parliament, notably over the demand for a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the December 13 security breach incident.
