In the meantime, the Election Commission (EC) issued a fresh notice to the Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu for his "objectionable comments" against Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying it violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Sidhu has 24 hours to respond to the EC’s notice.

While addressing a rally in Madhya Pradesh, Navjot Singh Sidhu had accused the Prime Minister of "benefitting businessman Anil Ambani and making money in the Rafale jet deal" and "doing politics on the corpses of martyrs". He also called Narendra Modi as the "biggest traitor" of the country.

In last Month (April), the EC had barred Sidhu from campaigning for 72 hours after it found him guilty of violating the MCC for his allegedly communal remarks. The Congress leader is the star campaigner for the party and recently a woman was detained for allegedly attempting to throw her footwear at him during a public meeting because he spoke against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The cricketer-turned-politician has been attacking Narendra Modi-led BJP government on various issues. Earlier, he claimed that schemes launched by the Centre were nothing but "failed policies" that failed to attract success.
