New Delhi: Ahead of the start of the budget session of Parliament, the opposition has started strategising to target the central government. In this connection, the Congress had convened a crucial meeting of the party's Parliamentary Strategic Group on Friday. In the meeting, chaired by the party's interim president Sonia Gandhi, the Congress has decided to corner the government in the budget session of Parliament over the relief package for corona-affected families, price rise, unemployment, farmers' issues, border standoff with China and some other issues.

Media reports quoting sources said that a number of decisions were taken at a virtual meeting of the party's Parliamentary Strategy Group led by Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Friday. The Congress' strategy group includes the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, AK Antony, KC Venugopal, Anand Sharma, Gaurav Gogoi, K Suresh, Jairam Ramesh, Manickam Tagore, Manish Tewari and Ravneet Singh Bittu.

Sources close to the party said Congress has also decided to corner the government by coordinating with like-minded parties on issues related to the masses. A senior Congress leader said that the demand for a relief package for the families affected by the corona pandemic will be taken up with full force in this session. Congress has been demanding for a long time that a compensation of Rs 4 lakh should be provided to the family of every person who lost their lives due to the coronavirus. We will emphasize this demand.
