The Congress party has decided to postpone its major rallies in all election-bound states, including Manipur, because to the extraordinary surge of COVID cases in India.

The All-India Congress Committee (AICC) has instructed state party units to review the COVID situation in their states before deciding whether or not to hold rallies. "The Party has chosen to postpone big rallies in election-year states. Congress national secretary KC Venugopal told media, "We have requested state units to assess the COVID-19 scenario in respective states and make a decision on organising rallies."

Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, and Uttarakhand are among the five states that will hold elections in the coming months. Many people around the country are worried about holding elections in the midst of a rapid increase of Omicron cases. Manipur has already reported a case of COVID-19's Omicron form. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been accused by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of "putting thousands of lives in risk" by holding big rallies in Manipur and Tripura on Tuesday.
