New Delhi: Ahead of the 2024 elections, the Narendra Modi government presented the last full budget of its second term, and this time the tax slab has been changed after eight years. Those earning up to Rs 7 lakh will no longer have to pay any tax. Every section, including the middle class, got some relief from this budget. However, the opposition sees nothing but zero in this budget. In this sequence, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has targeted the Modi government over the budget in his familiar style.

Rahul Gandhi has termed it as a 'Mitr Kaal' budget. Attacking the Modi government, Gandhi claimed that there is no plan in the budget to create jobs and tackle inflation. Rahul Gandhi has written in tweeting that, the 'Mitr Kaal' budget has: No vision to create jobs. No plan to tackle inflation. No intent to stern inequality. 1% richest own 40% wealth, 50% poorest pay 64% of GST, and 42% youth are unemployed - yet, the PM doesn't care! This budget proves that the government does not have a roadmap to build the future of India.

Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram said, "Who has benefited from this budget? Certainly, not the poor, not the unemployed youth, not the bulk of taxpayers, not housewives. Money is accumulating in the hands of 1 percent of the population.'' Chidambaram, who has been jailed and is currently out on bail, is facing probe on charges of financial irregularities in the Aircel Maxis deal and granting Indian visas to several Chinese nationals by taking money.
