Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi reached Parliament on Wednesday without SPG security. VVIP security has been removed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Regarding this issue, senior Congress leader in the Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma raised this issue in zero-hours and said that the safety of the leaders is the responsibility of the government. Referring to the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, he said that SPG security of the four leaders should be restored in view of the threats. He said that the government should reconsider its decision in this regard and it should work out of party spirit.

In his statement, Chairman JP Nadda said that there is no politics in this decision and their security has not been withdrawn. Nadda said that there is a set procedure and protocol in the Home Ministry and a decision is taken under that.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that a special committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs takes the possibility of threats. He said that people were threatened by LTTE but now LTTE is over. Swamy said that apart from this, whose safety is being talked about, he himself appealed to reduce the sentence of Rajiv Gandhi's killers and even met him in jail. However, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu asked the Swami not to raise the issue related to the killers of Rajiv Gandhi in this matter.
