New Delhi: The Income Tax Department (IT Department) on Thursday raided offices in various cities of media group Dainik Bhaskar on charges of tax evasion. Sources said that raids are being conducted at offices located in Bhopal, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and some other districts. There is no official information from the Income Tax Department regarding the raids. However, according to sources, the action is also against promoters of Hindi media groups operating in various states.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala has hit out at the Modi government amid the raid. Surjewala tweeted that 'Raid GVJi, cowardly attack on press freedom. Income tax raids now on Daily Bhaskar's Bhopal, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad offices.' "Raidraj" will not be able to suppress the voice of democracy. Surjewala took a dig at the government in another tweet and wrote, 'When saheb is afraid, "Raid" does it!'

On the other hand, veteran Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijay Singh tweeted that income tax department officials are "present" on about six premises of the group. These include the office of Dainik Bhaskar at the Press Complex in Bhopal, the state capital.
