Chandigarh: Congress is set to announce its candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Haryana. A committee formed by the party has submitted its report to President Kharge, with Salman Khurshid and Deepak Bawariya suggesting nine names in their report.

The Congress is contesting the elections in Haryana in collaboration with the Aam Aadmi Party under the India Alliance. The party currently holds nine seats, and it is speculated that Deepender Hooda might be the candidate from the Rohtak seat. Hooda's name has been a topic of discussion for this seat for a while now. According to sources, the party is also likely to field Kumari Shailaja from Sirsa, as her name has reportedly been finalized for this seat.

Sources suggest that Raj Babbar may receive the ticket from the Gurugram seat. Rao Dan Singh, who is considered close to Bhupinder Singh Hooda, might be the candidate from Bhiwani Mahendragarh. Other potential candidates include Satpal Brahmachari from Sonipat, Varun Mullana from Ambala, Mahendra Pratap from Faridabad, Brijendra Singh from Hisar, and Virendra Rathore from Karnal.

Voting for all 10 seats in Haryana will be held in a single phase. The Election Commission has scheduled May 25 as the date for the sixth phase of voting in the state. In this phase, voting will take place in Lok Sabha constituencies such as Ambala, Kurukshetra, Sirsa, Hisar, Karnal, Sonipat, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Mahendragarh, Gurugram, and Faridabad. It is noteworthy that the Aam Aadmi Party has secured the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat, with Sushil Gupta as its candidate.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP swept all 10 seats in the 'Jat Land'. The BJP secured over 58 percent of the votes, while Congress received 28 percent, and the JJP got about 5 percent of the votes. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won seven seats, while Congress won the Rohtak seat under the leadership of Deepender Hooda. The Indian National Lok Dal of Haryana, led by Om Prakash Chautala, secured two seats, Sirsa and Hisar.
