Shillong: PM Narendra Modi reached Meghalaya on Sunday morning. He attended the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the North Eastern Council in Shillong. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, Governors and Chief Ministers of all the North Eastern states, and other dignitaries were present in the function.

During this, the Prime Minister said that she has been thinking for a long time that there will be development in the border area and if connectivity increases, then the enemy will be benefited. Due to this thinking of the previous government, connectivity could not be improved in many border areas of the country including the Northeast, but today new roads, new tunnels, new bridges, new rail lines, and new airstrips are being constructed on the border. The work is going on fast. We are engaged in making the border villages which were once deserted, vibrant.

Because of this, the Prime Minister said that for us the North-East, our border area, is not the end point but the gateway to security and prosperity. The security of the nation is ensured from here and trade with other countries also happens from here. That's why there is another important scheme, which is going to benefit the North-Eastern states. This scheme is the Vibrant Border Village Scheme. Under this, better facilities will be developed in the border villages. Due to this, PM Narendra Modi also attacked the old governments a lot. He said that the number of rural roads built in the last 8 years under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana is 7 times more than the roads built in the previous 20 years. Digital connectivity is creating new opportunities for the youth power of the North East. Not only communication but tourism, technology, education, Facilities, and opportunities increase in every field till health. This also increases the potential of the digital economy. The coverage of optical fiber has increased four times, more than 5 times in Meghalaya.
