Madhya Pradesh consumer court has issued a notice to the Byju`s manager & its promoter and Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan for alleged "unfair trade practice"  and 'fraudulent behaviour" on the complaint of a woman, and has asked them to return the fees besides paying compensation.

Shah Rukh Khan, the manager of Byju, was accused of "fraudulent behaviour" and "unfair trade practises" in a complaint made by a woman to a district consumer court in Madhya Pradesh. The court has therefore mandated that they reimburse the fees and make restitution.

A resident of Indore named Priyanka Dikshit filed a complaint saying that despite paying Rs. 1.8 lakh in enrollment fees to join Byju's tutoring for IAS preparation in 2021, she never received any coaching services.

A district consumer court took action against Byju's and Shah Rukh Khan as a result of her complaint, ordering them to refund the fees and pay damages.

The complaint claimed that the fee was not reimbursed despite being promised that it would be. She further asserted that deceptive and misleading web marketing run by Byju's rivals tricked her into signing up for the coaching course.

Shah Rukh Khan was one of the defendants listed in Priyanka Dikshit's case. She claimed that Shah Rukh Khan had influenced her decision to enlist in Byju's coaching programme to prepare for the Union Public Service Commission's civic exams after she saw an advertisement on January 13, 2021.

The complainant should get a return of the money she paid, the Indore District Consumer Court decided on Wednesday.

According to the court's ruling, "Priyanka Dixit's Rs. 1.08 lakh in fees deposited at the time of admission in 2021 must be returned along with 12% annual interest, along with Rs. 5,000 to be given to her as litigation costs and Rs. 50,000 as compensation for financial and mental agony."

The local manager of Byju's and celebrity Shah Rukh Khan were both ordered by the Indore District Consumer Court to pay Priyanka Dixit the refund amount either jointly or separately.

According to Suresh Kanga, the attorney for Priyanka Dixit, the Indore District Consumer Court has given actor Shah Rukh Khan, who manages Byju in Indore, a 30-day deadline to abide by the judgement and return the money to Dixit.
