New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), born out of the anti-corruption movement, is surrounded from all sides these days. Many leaders of the party which claims to be of staunch honesty are imprisoned on charges of corruption. Leaders of Arvind Kejriwal's party, who came to power saying 'politics has come to change', are going to jail in such cases, due to which AAP is losing its credibility. Now Delhi's AAP MLA Abdul Rehman has been found guilty in a serious case.
In fact, AAP MLA from Seelampur, Delhi, Abdul Rehman and his wife Asma have been convicted in the case of assault and threatening to kill them. The Rouse Avenue Court has found him guilty of assaulting and threatening the principal of a government school in this 2009 case. Abdul Rehman and his wife Asma had beaten and abused Razia Begum, the principal of a government school, and prevented her from performing her duty while threatening to kill her. The court convicted the husband and wife under sections 353/506 and 34 of the IPC.
The Rouse Avenue court, in its order, said that both Abdul Rehman and Asma had assaulted and caused injury to the principal of a government school with a common motive. Interrupted in the work of a government official. The court said that the prosecution was successful in proving the charges against both of them. AAP MLA Abdul Rahman's wife Asma has also been convicted under section 332 of the IPC. However, none of the eyewitnesses recorded in the FIR had recorded their statements. There was also no Medico Legal Case (MLC). The FIR in this case was also lodged late by a day.
Let us tell you that this incident happened about 14 years ago in 2009 at Zeenat Mahal Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya of Jaffrabad. On February 4, 2009, Principal Zeenat Mahal was doing her duty here. At the same time Asma came to the school and publicly slapped Zeenat Mahal. After some time, Abdul Rehman reached the school with his companions and abused and threatened the principal.
Explain that, in this case, the AAP MLA and his wife Asma can be sentenced to a maximum of seven years in jail. According to the rules, if an MLA is sentenced to two years or more, he is disqualified from the membership of the assembly. Rahman, however, said that he would challenge the decision in the High Court.
Abdul Rehman was also accused of molesting a woman:-
It is noteworthy that Abdul Rehman is the MLA of AAP from Seelampur. He is also accused of molesting and assaulting a woman. The woman lodged a complaint in March 2021 at Jaffrabad police station, the investigation of which is underway. The woman had told in her complaint that Abdul Rehman had molested her and when she protested, she was assaulted. This incident happened during the by-election of Jaffrabad Municipal Corporation.
Abdul Rahman's name also came in anti-CAA violence:-
Abdul Rehman is the MLA from Seelampur, a Muslim-majority area that witnessed unprecedented violence led by Muslim mobs during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The Delhi Police named Rahman along with former Congress MLA Mateen Ahmed in an FIR for 'inciting the crowd' to join the anti-CAA protests. Rehman was accused of leading a mob on December 17, 2019, which eventually led to violence and arson. These were the same areas where Muslim mobs rampaged and rioted as a result of anti-CAA protests. It is also worth noting that Congress and AAP leaders were booked for the anti-CAA riots in these areas by Muslim mobs.
