GLASGOW: During the COP26 climate summit, 12 donor governments pledged USD 413 million in fresh money for the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) as a show of support for those most vulnerable to climate change.

The Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF), administered by the Global Environment Facility, is the sole specific source of climate resilience grants for the 46 Least Developed Countries, which have contributed the least to carbon emissions and face some of the greatest risks from climate change's effects. Belgium, the Belgian region of Wallonia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States announced their pledges in Glasgow, where signatories to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) are debating how to close the climate finance gap and meet the Paris Agreement's 2015 commitments.

"I am heartened by the outpouring of support for the Least Developed Countries Fund, which is unique in providing assistance to the world's most vulnerable countries. The commitments made today will have an immediate impact in areas where climate change concerns are greatest "a government official.

"Least Developed Countries hold a particular place in their hearts since the LDCF is the only climate change adaptation fund that is tailored to our specific needs and goals. We are 46 of the world's most vulnerable countries, and science shows that our climate risk exposure will only grow in the future "Sonam Phuntsho Wangdi, Chair of the LDC Group at the United Nations climate talks, said.
