Mumbai: Delta Plus variant of coronavirus has started wreaking havoc in Maharashtra. So far, 66 patients infected with this variant have been found and five of them have died. As per the information received, some of these 66 patients had taken both doses of vaccine. In fact, these cases have come to light in genome sequencing examination of samples taken for patients from different parts of the state. At the same time, one case each of death from delta plus variants has reportedly been reported in Ratnagiri, Raigad, and Beed on Friday. Let us also tell all of you that the delta plus variant has so far killed two patients in Ratnagiri, one each in Mumbai, Raigad, and Beed. Three men and two women were among the dead.
All were reportedly over 65 years of age and were suffering from many diseases. Not only that, two of the deceased had received both doses of coronavirus vaccine, two had received a dose. Further, information about vaccination of 5th is not available. The delta plus variant figure in the state has gone up from 21 to 66 in the last week. Similarly, some of the cases are in the month of June, whose genome sequencing report has just come. On the other hand, the state's surveillance officer, Dr. Pradeep Awate made a statement saying "there is nothing to panic about. Death cases in delta plus variants are coming to light in cases that already have many diseases.''
He further said, "It is important to understand that delta is still the deadliest variant, which is responsible for 80 per capita cases and the vaccine is effective against delta variants.'' He also said, "People should wear masks and follow social distancing rules.'' Let me tell you all that a BMC official has also made a statement saying, "This elderly woman who lost her life in the last week of July due to this form of the virus was given both doses of corona vaccine.''
