Amid the outbreak of Coronavirus in India, the Center urged the States and Union Territories to cooperate in the harvesting and sowing of crops, and said that the agricultural activities have been exempted from the lockdowns done to prevent corona. The Home Ministry has issued a separate order allowing the opening of agricultural machinery shops, their components shops, truck repair shops along the highway, petrol pumps and tea gardens. Tea plantations have been given permission to hire fifty percent employees.

In a message sent to the chief secretaries of all states and administrators of union territories regarding this scheme, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla has said that exemption from nationwide lockdown of agricultural work, agricultural laborers, bringing and transporting agricultural products by farmers will remain. Due to harvesting and sowing season in the country, these people have been given this exemption. The Home Secretary has said that the movement of agricultural activities, market movements, lifting of grain, harvesting and movement of sowing machinery were exempt from lockdown, but we got information that these activities could not reach the fields.

By clarifying the situation in this regard, the states and union territories are being requested to do agricultural work smoothly. It is expected that by following the principle of physical distance, farmers will be allowed to do agricultural work. It is noteworthy that for the prevention of coronavirus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day lockdown on 24 March.
