Sonia Gandhi urges PM to rollout wage support plan for construction workers

Indian National Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the workers working in construction sectors to take emergency steps in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. He said that these people should be helped with a certain amount.

In a letter to PM Modi, Sonia said that she had received information that the state boards meant for the welfare of construction workers had collected an amount of Rs 49,688 crore through cess till 31 March 2019 and out of this only 19,380 Crores have been spent.

On this matter, he further said that, 'We are facing an epidemic. In such a situation, strict steps are needed to stop the spread of coronavirus. Due to these steps, economic activities have been widely disrupted, which has a very bad effect on the unorganized sector. Millions of migrant workers have traveled from big cities to their towns and villages. The Congress President said, 'Now the future of more than 4.4 crore workers working in the construction sector has fallen into balance. Due to the tough steps to close the cities, a livelihood crisis has also arisen in front of many workers.
