Counter-Terrorism Deptt warns of assassination threat against Imran Khan

PESHAWAR: Pakistan's Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has issued an assassination threat against former Prime Minister Imran Khan,  media report read. on Tuesday.

According to the Daily Jang report, "terrorists are planning to assassinate Imran Khan, for which they have requested aid from an assassin in Afghanistan," 

The text of the threat alert has been shared with various forums, according to Daily Jang, and an Afghan assassin has been assigned the task of assassinating the former PM. However, the assassin in question delegated blame to others.
In the wake of the threat notice, the CTD has asked all responsible agencies to take all necessary precautions to ensure the security of the former prime minister, as per reports.

Meanwhile, a senior Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police official acknowledged that the CTD issued the alert on June 18. He said,  orders were given to keep the threat a secret and prevent it from being leaked on social media.

PTI leaders have recently expressed fear over Khan's safety, alleging that a target killer has been recruited to assassinate him. PTI leader Fayazul Hassan Chohan claimed on Twitter that "certain people" have hired a terrorist to kill the party's chairman. "I have information that some people have instructed a terrorist named 'Cochi' to assassinate PTI Chairman Imran Khan in Afghanistan," he said.
