Islamabad: The court has sentenced Wasim to life imprisonment in the murder case of Pakistan's social media star Qandeel Baloch. The court declared his second brother Mohammad Arif as 'wanted' and acquitted the other accused Mufti Qawi in the case. The judge pronounced the judgment saying that Qandeel's brother Mohammad Wasim should be sentenced to life imprisonment under section 311. The prosecution failed to prove the charges of the remaining accused.

After the decision was pronounced, Mufti Abdul Qavi told the media that he had faith in the judiciary and hoped that justice and honesty would prevail in the decision. Qawi has said that he had every hope of proving his innocence as he was not even named in the FIR. Pakistani social media star Qandeel Baloch, known for his impeccable style, was killed on July 2016.

On July 15, 2016, it was reported that Qandeel Baloch was murdered by his immediate brother. During a press conference after his arrest late last night, his brother Wasim confessed to the murder. He said that his family was getting insulted due to her tantrum. Police investigation revealed that Qandeel was strangled and killed. Qandeel's brother said that people used to taunt him about the videos of Qandeel which used to come on social media, and they could not bear the taunts to his family.
