NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry of Health has said that for the past four days, the country has reported fewer than one lakh Covid cases, said Lav Agarwal, the ministry's Joint Secretary.

"The daily positivity rate was 20.75 percent on January 24, but it has since dropped to 4.44 percent. It shows that the rate of infection transmission has dramatically decreased in recent years "In a news conference, Agarwal stated. On January 24, a total of 22,49,335 active cases were reported, with the number now down to 7,90,789, or 65 percent.

He went on to say that just four states - Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka - had more than 50,000 ongoing Covid cases. According to him, eight states reported over 50,000 covid cases last week. Similarly, 11 states have reported anywhere from 10,000 to 50,000 cases. Twenty-one states, on the other hand, have fewer than 10,000 current cases. He noted that decreasing trends in new covid cases and positive rates have been reported in all states, including Kerala and Maharashtra.

The number of districts reporting a positive rate of more than 10% has dropped to 141 across the country. Meanwhile, Agrawal said that a total of 160 districts are currently reporting a 5 to 10% Covid positive rate.
