New Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced on Tuesday that 6,358 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in India in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases in the country to 75,456.

So far, 653 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus have been reported in the country, according to the Health Ministry. Maharashtra led the list with 167 cases, followed by Delhi with 165, Kerala with 57, and Telangana with 55 cases confirmed. Active cases make up less than 1 percent of total cases, and are now at 0.22 percent, the lowest level since March 2020.

With the recovery of 6,450 patients in the last 24 hours, the total number of patients recovered since the outbreak began has risen to 3,42,43,945. The current recovery rate stands at 98.40 percent, the highest since the outbreak began.

The weekly positivity rate is 0.64 percent, which has been below 1 percent  for the past 44 days, while the daily positivity rate is 0.61 percent. For the past 85 days, the daily positivity rate has been below 2 percent. In the previous 24 hours, the government has reported 293 more fatalities, bringing the total death toll to 4,80,290.
