Covid Updates: India clocks 2,075 new cases, 71 deaths

New Delhi: India's COVID-19 case count grew to 4,30,06,080 on Saturday with the addition of 2,075 new infections, while active cases decreased to 27,802, according to figures from the Union health ministry.

The death toll from the viral disease rose to 5,16,352 with 71 new fatalities, according to figures updated at 8 a.m. Active cases account for 0.06 percent of all infections. The health ministry said that the national COVID-19 recovery rate was 98.73 percent. In a 24-hour period, the active COVID-19 caseload decreased by 1,379 cases.

The ministry reported that the daily positivity rate was 0.56 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 0.41 percent. In the previous 24 hours, 3,70,514 COVID-19 tests have been conducted. India has done over 78.22 billion tests to date, it stated. The total number of individuals who have recovered from the disease has increased to 4,24,61,926. It stated that the case fatality rate was 1.20 percent. 

The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses provided in the country thus far has crossed 181.04 crore as part of the statewide vaccination drive. 

On August 7, 2020, India's COVID-19 tally exceeded 20,000, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. It exceeded the 60 lakh level on September 28, the 70 lakh mark on October 11, the 80 lakh mark on October 29, the 90 lakh mark on November 20, and the one-crore mark on December 19.
