COVID Updates: India reports 2,539 new cases with 60 fatalities in single day

New Delhi: India has seen 2,539 new cases of the novel coronavirus, with 60 people deaths in the last 24 hours. According to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday (March 17), the country saw 4,491 discharges in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total recovery rate to 98.72 percent and total recoveries to 4,24,54,546.

The overall number of active COVID-19 cases in India has decreased to 30,799 (0.07%). Up till March 16, 78,12,24,304 samples had been examined for COVID-19, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). On Wednesday, 7,17,330 of these samples were tested.

Meanwhile, the Union health ministry announced that around 2.6 lakh children aged 12 to 14 years received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine 'Corbevax' on the first day of the vaccination drive for this age group on Wednesday (March 16).

The immunisation against COVID-19 in the 12-14-year-old age range began on Wednesday, as the country commemorated National Vaccination Day, with Biological E's intramuscular vaccine Corbevax, which is administered in two doses 28 days apart. There were 4.7 crore youngsters aged 12 and 13 in the country on March 1, 2021.
