Millions of rupees to be distributed in Wimbledon, amount of prize money increased

The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) has announced a record prize money of £4.35 million for the Wimbledon Grand Slam event. There has been a jump of 11.1 percent in the prize money of tennis competitions in 2022 as compared to the year 2021. The oldest grass-fed tennis match is scheduled to take place between June 27 and July 10. For the first time after 3 years, a championship is about to be held at full capacity.

Out of the prize money allocated for the tournament, the winners of the men's and women's competitions are going to see 20-20 lakh pounds each. After the cancellation of the championship in 2020, a total of one crore pounds were paid in lieu of the prize money to those players who are eligible for direct entry into the competition that year.

The Qualifying Competition Prize Money Fund has been increased by 26 per cent over 2021 and 48.1 per cent over 2019. The main draw singles player who participated in the first round is going to play for 50,000 pounds. The total prize money for wheelchair and quad wheelchair events has also seen a 19.8 per cent increase over 2021 and a 40.1 percent increase over 2019. The doubles and mixed doubles prize money had increased by 9.6 and 17.4 per cent respectively in 2021.
