In a recent incident in Manipur's Bishnupur district, a suspected insurgent attack resulted in the deaths of two CRPF personnel and injuries to two others. Early in the morning, a group of alleged Kuki insurgents opened fire from a hillside in Naranseina village, targeting a central security force post in the valley region. The situation escalated when a bomb detonated within the outpost, causing severe injuries to four personnel. Despite prompt medical attention, two security personnel succumbed to their injuries, while two others are currently receiving treatment.

According to police sources, the attack comes just days before the one-year anniversary of the start of the Manipur crisis. Militants hiding in the hills may increase their attacks in the coming days. The deceased personnel were from the CRPF's 128 Battalion and were identified as sub-inspector N Sarkar and head constable Arup Saini. The injured personnel are inspector Jadav Das and constable Aftab Das. The attack occurred at an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) camp where CRPF personnel were stationed after performing election duty in the state. The camp is situated 2 kilometers from the hills, with Upper Canal located approximately 1 kilometer away, an area previously designated as sensitive due to violence in Manipur last year.

A large-scale search operation is currently underway to locate the attackers, according to police. The region has experienced heavy gunfights between Meitei and Kuki-Zo armed groups in recent months, leading to heightened tensions and violence. The valley is predominantly inhabited by the Meitei community, while the hills are home to the Kuki people. The situation remains volatile as both groups claim to be "village defense volunteers" but have been involved in acts of violence under the guise of self-defense.
