Bangalore: After Shivamogga district of Karnataka, now in Tumakuru too, on Tuesday (16 August 2022) the incident of tearing of posters of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar has come to the fore. The chaotic elements tore up the posters put up on the streets on the occasion of Independence Day. Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Rahul Kumar has told 'A poster of Veer Damodar Savarkar was put up on Ashoka Road in Tumakuru, which was torn down by 15 unidentified people with the intention of disturbing the atmosphere. We have registered a case and started investigation.'

Meanwhile, the absurd statement of former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah has come to the fore. Instead of blaming the chaotic elements, veteran Congress leader Siddaramaiah has given a Hindu-Muslim color to the opposite issue and asked, 'Why did they put up posters of Savarkar in Muslim areas and remove Tipu Sultans? This is the double standard politics of the BJP.' Let us tell you that earlier there was a lot of uproar in Shivamogga on this matter. After a clash between two groups and a Hindu man was stabbed, the administration imposed Section 144 there. In the Shivamogga incident, Hinduist organizations had put a picture of Veer Savarkar on Ahmed Circle, after which people from other communities reached there carrying the flag of Tipu Sultan and an attempt was made to remove the picture. Soon a scuffle started between the two communities. The police had to lathi-charge to control the situation. But, The rioters did not stop. In the end, Shivamogga police had to impose Section 144.

Eyewitnesses had said about this ruckus that, on August 15, when the whole country was immersed in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of independence, 50-60 goons came to tear the poster of Veer Savarkar and they tore the posters placed on the side of the tricolor. According to eyewitnesses, while doing so, not only the freedom fighters were insulted but the national flag tricolor was also insulted. At the same time, the person who was stabbed by the fundamentalists in the midst of the whole ruckus. Eyewitnesses also told about him that the person had probably put a tilak on his forehead. In such a situation, when there was a complete commotion and he started returning to his house, some people caught him and stabbed him. His treatment is going on in the hospital. Four accused have been arrested in connection with the incident. The names of three of these are Abdul, Nadeem and Zabiullah. Zabiullah is being told as the main accused.
