Chandigarh: The havoc of Corona rising on one side has increased so much now that there is only a view of terror everywhere. As of now, the number of people who have died from this virus has exceeded 119000. The fear of this virus is spread among people. Doctors are still searching for treatment to fight this disease. The Punjab government has made up its mind to open liquor contracts in the state. In the midst of curfew imposed due to the Covid-19 crisis, the government had given permission to open shops of essential commodities but the liquor contracts were closed without any notification. As a result, the revenue earned by the state government as excise duty was completely stalled.

According to the information received, the government, which is facing acute shortage of revenue, has decided to open liquor contracts for a fixed time every day with instructions related to Covid-19, which will be announced soon. However, liquor grounds in the state will remain closed further under the pre-order.

A proposal in this regard has been sent by the department to the Chief Minister. The department wants that 66% of the contracts which have been renewed till 31 March, should be allowed to open the contracts. They should only be allowed to open for 5-6 hours a day and social distance should also be ensured.
