LUCKNOW: A Lucknow man and his two sons were defrauded of Rs 16 lakhs when fraudsters secured a new SIM card for his phone number by lodging an e-FIR and submitting a fake Aadhar card.  They then took the money out of their accounts. A complaint has been filed with the Cyber Crime Police Station by the victim.

Divyansh Singh of Chand Garden in Aliganj filed a complaint alleging that on June 3, he checked the balance of his bank account and discovered that money had been withdrawn.

"Later, I found that the fraudsters had also taken money from my father's and brother's bank accounts. They took Rs 16.04 lakh out of each of the three bank accounts "he said.

The victim phoned the bank, who informed him that the hackers had taken out the money on May 31 using his BSNL cell number and online banking. "I inquired more about it at the telecom Mahanagar office, and was told that someone had applied for a new SIM card for my mobile number through e-FIR," he said.

Preliminary investigations suggest that after obtaining the SIM card, the culprit also obtained the victims' Aadhar card and debit card, according to SP Triveni Singh of the Cyber cell.
