GUJRAT: Precautionary Measures Taken Ahead of Cyclone Biparjoy's Landfall -In light of the impending landfall of Cyclone Biparjoy, commercial flight operations at Jamnagar Airport in Gujarat will be temporarily suspended until Friday. The airport director has implemented a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) for a three-day period spanning from Wednesday to Friday. Additionally, adequate reserves of diesel and petrol have been stored to ensure smooth emergency operations at the airport.

Due to the NOTAM issued, both Air India and Star Air have canceled their scheduled flights. NOTAM, which stands for 'Notice to Airmen,' is a directive issued at airports to inform incoming flights about specific conditions or restrictions. As a result, the airport's parking area currently remains devoid of any aircraft.

Cyclone Biparjoy has formed in the Arabian Sea along the Gujarat coast and is anticipated to make landfall later today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the cyclone is currently moving in a north-northeastward direction towards the Saurashtra and Kutch coast. It is approximately 180 km away from Jakhau Port as of now, and it is predicted to cross Jakhau Port, Gujarat, tonight.

Coastal districts such as Porbandar and Dwarka are expected to experience high wind speeds, very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, and high tides along the Gujarat coasts. Given these circumstances, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in Gujarat since Wednesday. These teams are actively involved in the safe evacuation of individuals and animals residing in low-lying coastal areas.

The Indian Army stands ready to provide assistance and resources to the affected areas in case the need arises. Their preparedness is in line with their commitment to aid relief efforts and support the affected population during natural disasters.

With Cyclone Biparjoy approaching the Gujarat coast, the Jamnagar Airport has taken proactive measures by suspending commercial flight operations and issuing a NOTAM.
