Cyclone Burevi update, Storm approaching Tamil Nadu, Heavy rainfall in Kerala expected

The deep depression over Bay of Bengal has now intensified into a cyclonic storm, named as Burevi. IMD has said Cyclone Burevi will cross Sri Lanka coast on Thursday night and cross south Tamil Nadu on Friday morning. The cyclone will make landfall on Sri Lanka coast close to Trincomalee on Thursday evening and will emerge at the Gulf of Mannar on Friday morning. The cyclonic storm will then move towards Tamil Nadu and cross the state between Kanniyakumari and Pamban.

Three NDRF teams arrive at Tirunelveli, to move towards low-lying areas and two teams of National Disaster Response Force has been deployed at Thoothukudi. Few other NDRF Teams has been deployed at Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu and Alappuzha, Kerala which has received a red alert. Recent update from IMD reads, sea conditions are very rough to high over southwest Bay of Bengal and along and off east Sri Lanka coast.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has said his government is well prepared to handle the oncoming crisis. "All government departments have been directed to prepare on a war footing. We will get to know more about the impact of the cyclone in the coming hours. We are preparing to handle any kind of situation," Vijayan has said. Wind with speed of 80-90 KMPH is expected in another 6 hours.
