Ahmedabad: The Met Office said on Monday that heavy rain warning has been issued in various parts of Gujarat in the next few days due to a low pressure zone in the Arabian Sea. A department official said that the low pressure area in the Arabian Sea is feared to have been transformed into a severe cyclonic storm.

He has said that fishermen have been instructed not to go to sea for the next few days and ports have been asked to signal danger. The State Meteorological Department director Jayant Sarkar has told the press that there is a possibility of heavy rain in Saurashtra and Kutch on 13th and 14th of June due to the low pressure area being created in the Arabian Sea. The low pressure area in the Arabian Sea is moving northside at a speed of about 31 kmph on Monday.

A release issued by the department said that at 8.30 am on Monday it was about 240 km from Amnidivi (Lakshadweep), 760 km from Mumbai and 930 km from Veraval (Gujarat). It says it is predicting a cyclonic storm and a subsequent major cyclonic storm. It is expected to move northnorthwest in the next 72 hours.
