Dadasaheb Phalke was born on 30 April, 1870 in Maharashtra.  He made 95 films and 27 short films in a career of 19 years. In 1913, he made the first silent film titled Raja Harishchandra. In view of his contribution to Indian history, from 1969 the Government of India started the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in his honor. It is considered the highest and prestigious award of Indian cinema. He died on 16 February 1944.

For your information, let us tell you that when the grandfather of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke (Dhundiraj Govind Phalke) was disillusioned with the cinema, he spent two years with the family in Sardar Angre's Bada in Brahma Ghat in Kashi. Many well-known celebrities came to meet Phalke at the historic bada. Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak was also included in them. Dada's place of stay found in the Trensang Phalke Mission: The talk of the father of Indian cinema to Kashi was also a mystery for Kashi. The curtain was raised by the director Kamal Swaroop, who came to Varanasi during 2012-13, on the occasion of completing 100 years of Indian cinema.

Let us tell you that he came here during the documentary made for the film division. The team has been camping here for months. After much research, the team reached Angre's fence. In a conversation with Jagran at that time, he said that 'not many people know that Dada Saheb Phalke had a dispute with a partner in his company, so he came to Varanasi and stayed here from 1920 to 1922. He met many celebrities including Tilak here. He was happy here '. The Tresng Phalke mission had been going on since 2006 for the production of this documentary.
