SIKKIM:The revered Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, is all set to deliver a one-day teaching on Gyalsey Thokme Sangpo's '37 Practices of a Bodhisattva' (Laklen Sodunma) today at the Paljor Stadium in Gangtok, Sikkim.

Arriving in Gangtok on Monday for a four-day visit, the Dalai Lama received a warm welcome at the Libing Helipad from Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay, along with other dignitaries and devotees. This visit marks a significant occasion as he embarks on teachings scheduled from December 12 to 14 in the region.

In addition to the teachings, the Dalai Lama will virtually lay the foundation stones for two essential projects: the Karmapa Park project at Rumtek and the Gyalwa Lhatsun Chenpo Statue project at Simmik Khamdong constituency.

The reception at the helipad included a traditional Buddhist ritual known as 'Sherbang,' performed by monks representing various monasteries in the state, creating an atmosphere charged with spiritual energy.

This visit, aside from its spiritual significance, has sparked diplomatic discussions related to the ongoing border tension between India and China. Despite this, the Dalai Lama's focus remains on his teachings and engagements during his stay.

The Dalai Lama's secretary, Chimi Rigzin, stated, "His Holiness's visit to Sikkim is at the invitation of the State Government and CM Prem Singh Tamang. He will grace the public teaching at Paljor Stadium and participate in a state banquet before heading to Salugara on the 14th morning for further teachings."

Reflecting on the historical significance of Sikkim, Chimi Rigzin added, "Sikkim holds a special place in His Holiness's heart as it was where he first arrived in India in 1956 for the 2500th anniversary of the Buddha Jayanti. He feels sentimental whenever he visits Sikkim."

CM Prem Singh Tamang expressed his profound honor in hosting the Dalai Lama in Sikkim, stating, "The presence of His Holiness brings wisdom, compassion, and peace to our land. His teachings enrich our hearts and minds, inspiring kindness and harmony. We extend a warm welcome to His Holiness in the blessed land of Sikkim."

The Dalai Lama's visit signifies not just a spiritual event but also a symbol of unity and cultural importance for both the region and the broader geopolitical landscape.
