Rajasthan:  According to police, a Dalit woman who was allegedly raped and set on fire in Rajasthan's Barmer district on Thursday succumbed to burn injuries at Jaipur's Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.

The incident took placeon Thursday under the Barmer district's Pachpadra police station's jurisdiction. Shakoor has been named as the primary suspect and has been detained, according to the police.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the police added.

Meanwhile, a political commotion was witnessed in Rajasthan shortly after the occurrence as a BJP representative attacked the Ashok Gehlot administration.

Rajendra Rathod, the leader of the opposition in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, denounced the occurrence and called it a stain on the Ashok Gehlot administration's reputation.

"This incident is not the first one. Every week in Rajasthan, a situation similar to Nirbhaya develops somewhere. In the Balotra incident, the victim was hospitalised for 24 hours before an FIR was filed as a result of public outcry " he said., "This occurrence is a stain on the government's reputation. as oper  NCR figures, Rajasthan maintained its top spot in the rape of women for a third consecutive year." it added.
