Talking to PTI, Baroda Cricket Association Secretary Ajit Lele said that Dave Whatmore is being made the coach of Baroda Ranji team for two years. He will also hold the post of director of cricket of Baroda Ranji team for two years. According to Ajit Lele, he will also advise coaches of the Under 23, Under 19 and Under 16 teams in the role of Director of Cricket.

Whatmore was not very successful as an international cricketer. He played 7 Test matches for Australia in which only 293 runs came off his bat. His best score in the test is 77 runs. He played only one ODI for Australia. While in 108 first class cricket, Whatmore scored 6116 runs, including his 10 centuries and 35 half-centuries.
