Woman cricketer's body found hanging in forest, family says OCA killed Rajshree

Bhubaneswar: Odisha's women cricketer Rajshree Swain went missing on Wednesday (January 11). Now his body has been found hanging in a tree in the forest of Cuttack district. Police have also recovered a suicide note from Rajshree. In the suicide note, it has been said that she is mentally tortured. However, the family members allege that Rajshree has been murdered.

According to media reports, an FIR was lodged by the Coach of Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) regarding Rajshree's disappearance. After this, the police started investigating. In the initial investigation, the last location of Rajshree's mobile was found in the forest. On this basis, the police started checking in the forest. Meanwhile, on the information of the local people, the police recovered Rajshree's scooty and helmet. After this, the police carried out checking in the forest while taking the investigation forward. There, Rajshree's body was found in a forest under Gurudijtia police station area of Cuttack district.

Rajshree has been staying at a training camp organized by the Odisha Cricket Association since January 2. Apart from him, 24 other women cricketers were also included in this camp. All these women cricketers had come to the training camp to prepare for the national level cricketer tournament to be held in Puducherry. The Odisha state team was announced on Tuesday (January 10). Rajshree's name was not in this team. After this, Rajshree told her coach that she was going to her house Puri to meet her father. However, when Rajshree did not reach her house and her phone was found switched off, coach Pushpanjali Banerjee had lodged an FIR at the local Mangalabagh police station on Thursday (January 12, 2023).  

Rajshree's sister Jayashree blamed odisha cricket association officials and coach for her death. Jayashree has told that Rajshree called her on January 10. She was crying because her name was not in the Odisha team. Jayashree also said that Rajshree had told her that she was playing well. But, she was not selected for the team by the Odisha Cricket Association. At the same time, Rajshree's mother has told the media that Rajshree went to Cuttack for selection in the cricket team, where she stayed in the 'Palace Hotel'. After a 10-day camp, she was deliberately dropped from the final team while she was playing well. She was extremely stressed and had called her sister. On the phone, she told that she was playing well in the team and was the best all-rounder in the team. Even after this, she was not included in the team.

Rajshree's mother has also alleged that her daughter had gone missing. But, she was not told anything about this by the Odisha Cricket Association. At the same time, Rajshree's father Gunnidhi has raised questions and said that the hotel in which his daughter was staying. The forest is 30 km away from there. How did she get to the forest? He alleged that his daughter was murdered. After the murder, she was hanged in a tree and given the form of suicide. Gunnidhi has told 'OCA officials have killed my daughter. To suppress their wrongdoings, her body was hanged from a tree in the forest.'
