Neerja Bhanot was an Air hosters who sacrificed her own life to save the life of 360 passengers from plane hijackers on 5 September 1986. Her bravery and dedication towards the work inspire us that no matter what the circumstances are we should take the stand and do something worthy in life. On her birth anniversary, we bring you a few interesting facts about her which will surely inspire you.

Neerja was the daughter of a Mumbai-based journalist, Harish Bhanot.  Her family members lovingly called her ‘Laado’. She was gorgeous as well as talented. She became a supermodel and has featured in many advertisements. Bhanot tied the knot at the age of 21 years and moved to Gulf with her husband. Her marriage did not work and she returned to Mumbai to live with her parents.

She applied to the position of a flight attendant with Pan Am and started working for it. On 5th September 1986, four armed men hijacked the plane at Karachi, Pakistan and were targeting the Americans. All the passengers were terrified but Neerja fought with courage and saved the lives of several passengers but she was shot by bullets.

Indian Postal Service released a stamp in 2004 as a tribute to her. She was also the youngest recipient of the prestigious Ashok Chakra award. Sonam Kapoor starer 'Neerja' is also made on life story.
