New Delhi: Today is the death anniversary of the country's most loved Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, even after 57 years the death of this popular leader remains a mystery. Lal Bahadur Shastri died under mysterious circumstances in Tashkent on January 11, 1966. To date, no one knows what happened that night in Tashkent when the fully fit Prime Minister of India suddenly died. Let us inform you that after the Indo-Pak war in the year 1965, there was an agreement between the two countries in Tashkent. He died suddenly in the early hours of January 11, just 12 hours after the peace accord with Pakistan was signed in Tashkent on January 10, 1966. It is officially said that he died due to a heart attack, but there is no concrete proof of this.
Let us tell you that in 1965, there was a fierce war between India and Pakistan for 6 months from April to 23 September. In January 1966, 4 months after the end of the war, the top leaders of India and Pakistan reached Tashkent in Russian territory, for a peace agreement. President Ayub Khan had reached Tashkent from Pakistan. While the then PM Lal Bahadur Shastri had reached there from the Indian side. On 10 January a peace agreement was signed between the two countries. There was a lot of pressure on Shastri ji after signing the India-Pakistan agreement in Tashkent. Shastri ji was facing a lot of criticism in India for giving back Haji Pir and Thithwal to Pakistan, even his wife was angry about this decision of Shastri ji. Along with Shastri, his information officer Kuldeep Nayyar had also gone to Tashkent.
Nayyar had told in one of his interviews that, 'Lal Bahadur Shastri called home that night. As soon as the phone rang, he said to give the phone to Amma. His elder daughter came on the phone and said that Amma will not talk. He asked, why? Got the answer, because you have given Haji Pir and Thithwal back to Pakistan. He is very angry about this. Shastriji was shocked by this. It is said that after this he kept moving in his room. Then he called his secretary Venkataraman to know the reactions coming from India. Venkataraman told him that till now two statements had come, one was from Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the other from Krishna Menon and both had expressed displeasure towards this decision of Shastri ji.'
He died suddenly within 12 hours of signing the agreement. Was his death natural or was he murdered? Let us tell you that the then Congress government did not even conduct the post-mortem on Shastriji's body. It is said that if the post-mortem was done at that time, the real reason for his death could have been revealed. Even after the sudden death of a prime minister, the country's oldest political party has always been suggesting not conducting a post-mortem on his dead body. Shortly after the death of Shastri ji, Indira Gandhi was made the Prime Minister of the country in a hurry, so many people also see Shastri ji's death as a conspiracy to grab the chair.
