The Air Force chopper met with an accident in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu last Wednesday. Eleven other army officers including the country's first Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat died in the accident. Today, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has made a statement in Parliament on the Mi-17 helicopter crash of the Air Force.

In fact, the Defence Minister arrived in Parliament at 11:00 a.m. and said, "General Rawat was on his scheduled visit. The Mi-17 took off by helicopter at 11.48 am on Wednesday. Air traffic control lost control around 12 am. The helicopter was later spotted in flames by some people. A rescue team of the local administration arrived. All those evacuated from the remains were rushed to the military hospital in Wellington. 13 out of 14 people were killed in the accident.''

Meanwhile, Rajnath Singh expressed condolences over the death of 11 other army officers including Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat. He will now make a statement in the Lok Sabha at 12:15 pm. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also expressed grief over the incident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is meeting ministers in Parliament House. Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Anurag Thakur and other officials are present in the meeting.
