Vikasnagar Kotwali police of Dehradun nabbed two smugglers smuggling under the guise of essential service during the lockdown. About 500 grams of smack have been recovered from both. Both were smuggling smacks from Bareilly under the guise of transporting vegetables. The caught smack is being valued in the international market at Rs 2 crore. Police have filed a case against both the accused in the NDPS Act. Preparations are on to present both the accused in the court. Two other accused involved in the smuggling are being searched. While speaking at the Kotwali Vikasnagar on Sunday, SP Dehat Padmendra Doval told that on April 17, the police received information that some people were smuggling narcotics through trucks under the guise of essential service.

After which the police started searching for vehicles engaged in essential services. During this time, the police got information about a truck. On the morning of April 18, the police received information from the informer that the said truck was parked at the Modi ground in Herbertpur. In which two suspicious persons are sitting. After which the police took a check of the truck while sieging, it was loaded with sacks of chillies, while the necessary service related sticker was placed. The police searched the two persons present in the vehicle and a 500 gram smack was recovered from them. The accused were identified as Ashfaq Ahmed son Shakur Ahmed resident Talhapur police station Biharigarh Saharanpur and Sherdin son Naziruddin resident Mazri thana Sahaspur. Sherdin has also been jailed thrice in the past for drug trafficking.

In such a situation, he contacted Abbas, a resident of Khushalpur, for the purchase of smack. After which he introduced him to Mehranwala resident Imran. It was Imran who gave him the idea of smuggling business under the guise of bringing vegetables from Bareilly in front of the truck. Told that he was earning more in the smack deal at this time due to the lockdown. SP Dehat said that the search for Abbas and Imran is going on in the case.
