The building where the fire took place near Rani Jhansi Road in Delhi, capital of India, did not get NOC from the Fire Department. There was no arrangement to deal with the fire in the building. Most of the people died not due to scorching fire, but due to smoke suffocation in a verandah on the third floor.

According to media reports, the fire was caused by the short circuit or there was another reason for it, it is not clear yet. The building workers used to sleep there after doing their work. They also used to arrange their food there. Due to the morning, the police has not ruled out this accident happening by a laborer making tea there. During the rescue work, police have also found gas stove, cooker etc. But there has been no incident like the explosion of the gas cylinder. So far 45 people have been confirmed dead and 53 injured. The injured are being treated in LNJP, Safdarjung, Lady Hardinge hospitals.

In his statement, Delhi Fire Department High Officer Atul Garg said that the building in which the fire has been set up is about 500 yards away. The entire building has four more floors besides the ground floor. Small and big rooms are built on each floor. There were factories to make different types of goods in every room. Items like bags, hats, purses were made there. There are stairs in one corner of the ground floor which leads to the upper floors. The fire incident took place on the second floor. Most people died due to suffocation in a verandah on the third floor.
