Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet have decided to extend the scheme offering free electricity and subsidies until the fiscal year 2024-2025. Atishi, the Power Minister, made the announcement following the cabinet meeting on Thursday.

"I am pleased to announce that during today's cabinet session, it was agreed upon that the provision of free electricity and subsidies will be extended until 2024-2025 for the residents of Delhi," stated Atishi, addressing the media.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called for an 'emergency' cabinet meeting at his residence to address the issue of power subsidies. There were anticipations of a significant decision regarding power subsidies for the upcoming year, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, according to senior officials.

Under the ongoing scheme, the Delhi government offers free electricity to consumers using up to 200 units per month. Additionally, individuals consuming between 201 to 400 units receive a 50% subsidy on their electricity bills. This initiative aims to provide relief to lawyers, farmers, and victims of the 1983 riots.
