New Delhi: Home delivery of liquor has also started in the national capital Delhi. Delhi's Kejriwal government has allowed home delivery of liquor through a mobile app or online web portal. Earlier, the Chhattisgarh government had started home delivery of liquor. Governments behind this say the decision will not crowd liquor shops in the Corona period.
As per the Delhi Excise (Amendment) Rules, 2021, L-13 licensees will be allowed to deliver liquor to people's homes. The notification said, 'Licensees will deliver liquor to homes only on receipt of orders through mobile apps or online web portals and no delivery will be made to any hostel, office and institution.' However, home delivery of liquor was allowed earlier, but licensees could deliver liquor only after receiving orders through e-mail or fax. Now ordering from a mobile app or online portal will allow alcohol to be found sitting at home. This does not mean that all liquor shops will be authorized to make home delivery immediately.
Just last year, the apex court observed that states should consider home delivery of liquor, as many pictures of the neglect of corona rules were exposed due to congestion outside liquor shops. Then, as soon as the second wave of corona came, liquor shops in Delhi were ordered to be closed again.
