NEW DELHI: Two days after taking office as Delhi's Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence on Saturday (February 22). They had also met earlier on February 20 at her oath-taking ceremony at Ramlila Maidan, where the PM was present along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other NDA leaders.
Earlier in the day, CM Gupta held a meeting with officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) to discuss ways to improve Delhi’s infrastructure and fix damaged roads. The Delhi BJP shared on social media that she gave instructions to the officials regarding road repairs, traffic issues, and other concerns.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s PWD Minister Parvesh Verma inspected ongoing projects from Bhairon Marg to Sarai Kale Khan on Ring Road. He interacted with officials and locals to understand their problems and find solutions. During the inspection, he instructed officials to ensure roads last for at least 10-15 years, even though the standard period is five years.
Verma also inquired about the progress of a 4-kilometer road repair project and how traffic was being managed. Officials informed him that work was being done lane by lane, mostly at night, to reduce inconvenience.
On the other hand, former Delhi CM and AAP leader Atishi wrote a letter to CM Rekha Gupta, expressing concern over the delay in implementing a scheme that provides Rs.2,500 to women. She pointed out that the first cabinet meeting was held on February 20, but the scheme had not yet been approved. Atishi requested a meeting with the Chief Minister on Sunday, February 23, to discuss the issue.
Rekha Gupta's Victory in the Delhi Assembly Election
Rekha Gupta won the Delhi assembly election from Shalimar Bagh, securing 68,200 votes and defeating AAP’s Bandana Kumari by 29,595 votes. In 2022, BJP had fielded her as its mayoral candidate for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), but she lost to AAP’s Shelly Oberoi.
Notanly, her experience as a councillor and mayor will be valuable as Delhi struggles with issues like water supply, traffic congestion, pollution, road conditions, and sewer problems, i.efactors that contributed to AAP’s defeat.
