A court in Delhi, the capital of India, has imposed a fine of five thousand rupees on Congress leader and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor. This penalty has been imposed for not appearing in the court in defamation case. BJP leader Rajiv Babbar has filed a defamation case against Shashi Tharoor for making controversial remarks against PM Modi. According to the information, Shashi Tharoor was not appearing in the court. After repeated orders, when he did not appear in a Delhi court on Saturday, he was fined Rs 5000.

For your information, let us tell you that earlier in December 2019, the hearing was postponed till 15 February 2020. In December also, the court had directed Shashi Tharoor to deposit a guarantee of five thousand rupees. At the same time, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 500 on BJP leader Rajiv Babbar. This fine was imposed for not being present during the hearing in the court. In fact, Shashi Tharoor gave an objectionable statement criticizing PM Modi. There was strong condemnation around this statement of the Congress leader. BJP leaders also asked the Congress leader to apologize for this statement.

Shashi Tharoor is a veteran leader of Kerala Congress. He is also currently an MP from Thiruvananthapuram. Shashi Tharoor has also been the Minister of State for External Affairs in the UPA Government under the leadership of Manmohan Singh. Shashi Tharoor has often criticized the BJP and PM Modi. He is also known for his outspoken statements. Sometimes he remains in the headlines by speaking outside the party line.
