Delhi Court Rejects Sanjay Singh's Bail Plea Amid Money Laundering Probe

New Delhi: In a significant development, a Delhi court has dismissed the bail application of Sanjay Singh, a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), in connection with a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. Sanjay Singh, who is also a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on October 4.

The ED has asserted that Sanjay Singh played a pivotal role in formulating and implementing the now-scrapped 2021-2022 excise policy. According to the ED, this policy benefited specific liquor manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers in exchange for monetary considerations. The AAP leader has consistently refuted these claims and maintained his innocence throughout the investigation.

During the legal proceedings regarding Singh's bail application, his counsel argued that there were contradictions in the statements provided by the accused-turned-approver Dinesh Arora and other witnesses regarding alleged bribes to Singh. However, the ED opposed Singh's bail plea, emphasizing that the investigation was still underway. The ED expressed concerns that if released on bail, Singh might obstruct the ongoing probe, tamper with evidence, or influence witnesses.

The court, presided over by Special Judge MK Nagpal, rejected Singh's bail application. A detailed order from the court is expected to provide further insights into the decision.

This development adds another layer to the legal challenges faced by Sanjay Singh in connection with the alleged excise policy scam. The dismissal of the bail application underscores the seriousness of the accusations and highlights the complexities surrounding the case.
