Delhi government relaxed the tourism department approval to open a new stand alone restaurant

Arvind Kejriwal led AAP government in Delhi has announced a relaxation to open a new stand alone restaurant in Delhi. The announcement comes as a relief in the midst of ongoing COVID 19 situation to the entrepreneurs. As per the new announcement the approvals were needed from the Tourism department to open a stand-alone restaurant in Delhi is not necessary.

The order read by the Tourism Secretary, Manisha Saxena says "In terms of decision taken by the Hon'ble Chief Minister, GNCT of Delhi, in the meeting dated 07.10.2020 regarding Ease of Doing Business for Restaurants, the Voluntary Scheme of Granting Approval to the Standalone Restaurants being implemented by the Tourism Department, GNCT of Delhi, is hereby discontinued with immediate effect". The statement added the scheme for granting approvals to restaurants was implemented by the Union Tourism ministry throughout the country was discontinued on June 30, 2003 and the centre has asked states to decide their own guidelines.

However, Delhi Government followed the same for restaurants with seating capacity more than 30. Upon request from the restaurant operators to ease the requirement of several approvals, regulations and licences CM in an effort to boost the hospitality industry, officials were instructed to remove the hurdles in a way to start the business in a easier way.
