New Delhi: The threat of air pollution in Delhi-NCR has once again started looming as the winter starts. To prevent pollution, the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority has ordered the governments of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to ban diesel generators except for essential and emergency services.

The Pollution Control Authority has called for stringent rules to fight air pollution in Delhi and adjoining areas from October 15. The authority is working under the supervision of the country's largest court, a part of the Stringent Rules Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) framed by the authority. Under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), the use of diesel generators will be banned from October 15 for all works except emergency services in Delhi NCR.

The ban is being imposed in Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) areas like Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Greater Noida. In addition, clearance from pollution control board will be mandatory for construction work in major projects like highways and metros. EPCA chief Bhurelal has written a letter to the States in this regard.
